Why Are We Obsessed with Weight Loss?

The Witty Witch might be a tiny platform to stand on and shout my views from but it is mighty. I am scrolling through my feed which is very limited because it’s an account created only for a handful of friends, family and supposed “support groups.” I was part of a group for the Keto diet and they CRUCIFIED a woman for eating CARROTS. This is the norm on every post…people telling others what they should or shouldn’t eat. FUCK OFF. It’s hard enough living in world with impossible standards and we wonder why women are suffering from eating disorders and body image issues.

Ok, so I keep on scrolling past the trolls and every other post is before and after pictures for network marketing products. Now I admit, I was a direct sales girl and I loved some of the products and the results. What I didn’t love was thrusting weight loss in everyone’s face when I myself struggle with body image issues and ED. I hated the mean girl, cult like behavior by certain companies (which I won’t get into because I respect my friends that sell them.)

Please know that I am not saying those of you affiliated with direct sales are all guilty of this. Chances are, if you aren’t a supportive and encouraging woman I have deleted you anyways. My point is that it is rampant and spreading like wild fire on social media where young, impressionable women are already obsessing over ways to fix themselves.

Why is it too much to ask that we accept people for who they are and where they are in their journey. If they ask for help or training on how to be healthy, great. But stop projecting and encouraging this insanity that we all have to be a certain way!

On top of that I cannot tell you how many obsessive hours I have spent talking to my girlfriends about weight loss, trouble areas, hating myself, beating myself up because I ate a piece of pizza at a game, etc. etc.

Another example…I went to the store to buy some shorts and didn’t end up buying them because the Large was a little snug and that made me feel shitty. I am finally at a point in my life where I don’t hate what I see in the mirror. It took me a lot of ups and downs on the scale and learning what works for my body to get here, but the moment a Large was a little too tight I freaked out. I don’t see a size Large in the mirror…I see a woman who struggled with weight and body image issues since she was a child who finally realizes the strength and beauty this body possesses. I wish we all could see the perfection we are and not let a little thing like the size on a tag send us from confident to broken so quickly.

I believe in the law of attraction. If you want change to come to you you CANNOT obsess on what is going wrong, yet you must embrace the beauty that you already posess. If you sit and squeeze your chub the universe is gonna be like “aight fine, stay chubby”. Which you ARE NOT chubby by the way…I am just saying that is how the universe perceives these messages you are putting out. If you project on others that they need to change who they are, the universe will attach that negativity to you.

LIVE AND LET LIVE. Stop putting gas in the body image destruction freight train!!

You are a Badass

I have been listening to “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincero on Audible on my lunch breaks and in the car and it’s so enlightening. She goes into all the details I already know and learned from “The Secret” but with a brash sense of humor and mouth like a sailor so its easier for me to relate to. Even when you are well educated on the law of attraction, self love, and vibrating on a higher frequency, it’s good to remind yourself. Especially when you are trying to escape the clutches of addiction and feel weak, scared, hopeless and sick.

The parts of the book that I am really soaking up are the affirmations and forgiveness of self. I had really sunk to some deep lows this week and the negative self talk was crippling.

Today I am focusing on believing this quote by Jen Sincero:

“You are loved. Massively. Ferociously. Unconditionally. The Universe is totally freaking out about how awesome you are. It’s got you wrapped in a warm gorilla hug of adoration. It wants to give you everything you desire. It wants you to be happy. It wants you to see what it sees in you.”

I am also working on forgiving myself. She makes a point (and I am summarizing) that we are all born with the capability of making great mistakes. Our special skill in life though isn’t fucking up. We are gifted and special in so many ways, but fucking up is not our destiny. No one actively chooses to make mistakes. We were not born to just stumble through life with small victories and large mistakes. But they do happen. & when they do, forgive yourself and let it go. Learn from it, but let it go.

So here I am broke, destitute, sober and feeling like I am completely exposed and vulnerable. But I am going to choose to view it in another light. Money is disposable and comes and goes; i have a job, I will make it through alive. Being sober is not vulnerability it is strength. It takes more strength to face your problems with a clear mind and heart then to lay down and numb it away.

Just for today- I forgive myself and I love myself and I am sober.

Why Monday Should Be Your New Favorite Day.

I know what you’re all thinking. The Witty Witch has lost her DAMN MIND. But hear me out.

We have all experienced the euphoria we feel on a Friday morning when we open our eyes and realize we have one more day to get through at the office before we can sleep in, enjoy our free time and have a little less cares in the world. When the clock strikes 5 and you are powering down your computer and revving up your internal engine for some fun it’s like the adult version of Christmas. Then Sunday rolls around and you might experience what I used to frequently get…the Sunday Blues. Pondering what emails have rolled in over the weekend, what new tasks are going to be a burden in the upcoming week, and what responsibilities have been added to your plate while you were busy enjoying your weekend. The thing about that is if it is Sunday, and you’re thinking of Monday, you are not TRULY living your best life and having your best day. Remember, the cardinal rule to living a happy life is to be present; live in the now. Ok, well what about Monday morning??? Surely you can feel justified in being in less than a stellar mood and even down right grumpy on a Monday morning because that is the present right? WRONG. I have already gone over the law of attraction and how it works…the same rules apply for even the most Mondayest of Mondays ever. Here is HOW you can make your Monday your new favorite day and you will see WHY it should always be your favorite day.

It is not a coincidence I chose to write this piece during the new moon. To wiccans and those that follow the moon cycle, the new moon is essentially one big Monday. It is the start of something fresh and new. We write down our affirmations for the upcoming moon cycle, reflect on how far we have come since the last new moon, and put forth our intentions for what is to come to us. Even if you don’t care about moon cycles, you can essentially use Monday’s in the same fashion. Here is how:

If you don’t already have a habit of doing this everyday, Monday’s are a good time to start practicing, and perhaps it will carry over into the rest of your week. I get up early each morning before I start real life (aka the gym and work) and burn some incense, pray, and meditate. I affirm how my day is going to go for me and reflect on what I want to achieve throughout the day. It gives you the opportunity to start the day with a clear mind and grateful heart. There are days when I am too tired to get up and do it (today was one of them), and I notice a huge difference in my attitude and mental clarity. It takes some practice to make it a habit, but if you start with Mondays, you may notice a huge change in your day and week. Of course your ritual can vary to whatever serves you. Mine often also includes a card of the day tarot reading, choosing a special crystal to take with me to work, and even a self healing reiki session. Perhaps you want to just start with writing in a journal for a few moments about what you want to accomplish this day or week. Maybe you want to just sit with a cup of coffee and think about the week ahead, whatever you do, make sure you are keeping it in a positive light so as to abide by the law of attraction.

If you are STILL having trouble wrapping your head around this whole Monday thing, here are some other suggestions:

  1. Use Monday to start something fun and exciting. Is there a new hobby you have wanted to try but been pushing off? Make it a goal to have Monday be your starting point. It will give you something to look forward to!
  2. Accomplish something you normally procrastinate on. I am in Real Estate school and it is so boring….so I find myself procrastinating through it during the week, but I have made Monday the day I get quite a few solid hours in and I feel accomplished and am more likely to continue the trend throughout the week.
  3. Everyone knows the cliche “I will start my diet Monday”. DO IT. Do your meal prep, do a workout, and reflect on it afterwards. How did it feel to make yourself a priority and actually stick to the plan? Pretty amazing!
  4. Start a fun weekly tradition. Maybe this means meeting the girls for happy hour, taking a Monday night Yoga class, finding a new show you like and binge on it for a little bit after work. Whatever it is that will create a sense of happiness and peace.

This will undoubtedly take some patience and practice, but I have faith that you can at least find a silver lining each Monday! Blessed be you beautiful beings!

The Law of Attraction

Today I want to delve more into the Law of Attraction. I cannot believe it’s been 29 years and I am just NOW learning about LOA. If you have never heard of the LOA, I would recommend googling articles about it or even better…download the audible version of “The Secret”. I have been listening to it in the car a little each day and it has been life-altering. Now before you start any sort of research on LOA I will tell you that you have to go into it with an open mind. Since I have already been practicing opening my third eye and becoming spiritually awakened, it has not been difficult for me to believe and start to receive from the LOA…but if you go in with your third eye shut and a closed heart, you will not reap the benefits of the LOA.

In short: The law of attraction believes that our thoughts become things. Whatever energy or thoughts you are putting out into the universe, you will get back. If you worry about debt everyday, you will acquire more debt. If you complain everyday and are a person that claims to “hate people” you will be met with hate and cynicism. The LOA will have you believe that you are in control of your own fate. Hard to believe at first right? Let’s think about it from a different angle. When you walk around with your head down, worrying about the days events and pissed off…what happens? Have you noticed other people around you begin complaining, acting pissed off, and moping?  How about the term “misery loves company.” THAT is the LOA. Now using that as a starting point here is the incorrect and correct way to utilize the LOA-

INCORRECT: Ok if my thoughts become things, I will sit and think “I will not have debt, I will not be angry, I will not complain.” The LOA does not hear “won’t” or “doesnt want” it cannot differentiate between good and bad, all it knows is the focal point. Debt. Anger. Complain. If you think those things, they will manifest even if you don’t want them to.

CORRECT: This is where the shift of thoughts comes into play. “I will have wealth. I will have abundance. I will be happy. I will spread happiness”. You cannot just think these things. You need to visualize how it feels. Think of Harry Potter when he is trying to cast a Patronus to keep the Dementors away. Lupin instructs him “you must think a happy thought and FEEL it.” How does it feel when your tax refund hits your bank account? Hold on TO THAT feeling when saying you will have wealth. And reaffirm these things everyday. Whatever it is you want for yourself. Set the intention, ask, feel, and you will receive. It’s that simple. Happy feelings and thoughts attract happiness and happy people.

You can start small by saying something to yourself like “Today i will get a close parking spot at the store.” Envision the parking spot, close to the store, and the joy you feel when you see the empty spot. Think of it over and over again and hold on to it, and it will manifest for you.

This is just an overview of the work I have been doing for myself. In my findings, I have stopped having nightmare and have had dreams filled with love, hugs, and happiness. When I wake up, I smile. I seek out happiness and manifest it for myself, and I FEEL it throughout the day.
