Herbs are also used for a variety of healing and cleansing. The primary herbs used in every day practice are sage, lavender, Patchouli, Peppermint, Rosemary, and Clove to name a few.

The most commonly used herb at my house (and most others) is Sage. The stinky white herb is usually burned on a smudge stick and is used to cleanse crystals, your house, or belongings of negative energies. You can get smudge sticks on Etsy.com or you can grow and make your own. You simply light the end until ignites and then blow the flame out. It will leave a trail of strong smoke behind it. Most people carry it in abalone shell or some other device to catch the ashes.

Rosemary is also commonly used and is thought to be a Guardian herb.  The primary associations of rosemary are: healing, protection, purification, love, strength, memory, stress relief, and mental clarity. Rosemary is associated with the Sun and with the zodiac sign of Leo. It has also been linked to fidelity and protection of women. There are Rosemary incense you can burn for protection and mental clarity (memory enhancement), and there is Rosemary essential oils that can be added to every day lotions and soaps.
